Reminder: Your body is always “summer ready”😎👙
Monday morning reminder: you were not put on this Monday morning reminder: you were not put on this 🌎 to be preoccupied with making yourself smaller🙌🏼
Weekend reminder: honor your cravings & move on (w Weekend reminder: honor your cravings & move on (without the guilt!)💕 It is far worse to beat yourself up for having dessert, than it is to have said dessert (or whatever food you may be craving). Instead, enjoy the food, savor it mindfully, and move on with your day! No one food can make or break your health. Our health (both mental & physical!) is based on multiple factors - some of those in our control and are impacted in how we care for ourselves overall & other factors that are not in our control are important to remember as well.

PSA of the day….Calories in versus calories out PSA of the day….Calories in versus calories out is BS.
.
A big topic of conversation with clients this week has been around the commonly held belief that our “body size is something we have control over”. Diet culture tells us that the equation is simple: calories in vs. calories out. Eat less, exercise more = “the key to weight loss”. Easy, right? Not exactly…. Turns out weight-regulation is much more complicated than that because…. YOUR👏🏻BODY👏🏻IS👏🏻NOT👏🏻A👏🏻CALCULATOR! This is why two people could eat the exact same amount and do the exact same exercise and look completely different!
.
We are HUMAN BEINGS and not machines. The calories in versus out is WAYYYY to simplistic. There are many factors that impact how our body uses energy including but not limited to: genetics, disease, medications and resting metabolic rate.
.
So what are some of the problems with calorie counting?
.
#1 not only is it not practical or enjoyable, but it can quickly lead to hyper-fixation around food which may be a slippery slope towards disordered eating and eating disorders.
.
#2 Your calorie needs vary every single day! Your energy requirements can vary daily based on where you are on your cycle, the amount of sleep you got, your level of activity, etc.
.
#3 Calorie count meal plans don't see the full picture. These strict calorie predictors often only take your size and sex into account which are not the only factors for energy needs!
.
#4 - Your body uses different food groups in different ways. Focusing on a number can mean missing out on key nutrients. Your body needs a variety of carbs, proteins, and fats every day and not a nit picky calorie count!
.
#5 It causes you to ignore your own body signals and needs and become disconnected from hunger/satiety cues. Your body is smart and doesn’t need micromanagement with numbers!
